India and France have officially signed a defense agreement for the procurement of 26 Rafale-Marine (Rafale-M) fighter jets, strengthening their strategic and military ties. The deal, valued at approximately Rs 63,000 crore, was finalized after months of negotiations, reflecting India's focus on enhancing its naval air power.

The Rafale-M jets are specifically designed for carrier-based operations and will be deployed on India’s indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant. The acquisition is a major boost to the Indian Navy, which has been seeking advanced fighter aircraft capable of operating from sea-based platforms. The Rafale-M, known for its versatility, high endurance, and superior combat capabilities, is expected to significantly enhance India’s maritime security and deterrence in the Indian Ocean region.
This agreement also includes a comprehensive package covering maintenance, training, and support infrastructure to ensure smooth integration into the Navy's operations.
The Rafale-M deal is seen as part of India's broader push towards military modernization amid evolving regional security challenges. It also underlines the deepening defense partnership between New Delhi and Paris, which continues to grow across multiple sectors including aerospace, space, and nuclear cooperation.
