Sri Lanka prevailed over Pakistan in a last-ball encounter

Final would take place on September 17th

India and Sri Lanka have been the most successful teams in the history of Asia Cup

After a closely fought encounter with Pakistan, a last ball victory ensured a spot in the finals for Sri Lanka that would be played on 17th September. After having opted to bat first after winning the toss, only 2 batsmen from Pakistan managed to cross the 50 run mark. Rizwan managed to be the top scorer with a 73-ball 86. Iftikhar’s fireworks towards the end took the team total to 252 in 42 overs. The Duckworth-Lewis adjusted target for Sri Lanka was 252. They seemed to be comfortable but a flurry of middle order wickets in the last 2 overs brought the equation down to 6 of 2 balls. However Asalanka edged a ball for 4, managed a double and got Sri Lanka through to the finals.

This would be the 8th time the 2 teams would clash in the finals of the Asia cup. This has been the most repeated fixture among the 17 Asia cups that have been played. India and Sri Lanka are also the most successful teams in the tournament with respect to number of trophies won. The 2 teams have previously clashed in the 1988, 1991, 1995, 1997, 2004, 2008 and 2010 Asia Cup finals. They have also clashed in the 2011 World Cup finals and the 2014 T-20 World Cup finals.
