India launched a strong diplomatic offensive against Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday, with Permanent Representative Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish calling out Islamabad's support for terrorism and failure to manage its economy. The remarks were made during a high-level UNSC debate on peace and multilateralism.

Ambassador Harish sharply contrasted India’s democratic values and economic progress with what he described as Pakistan’s deep-rooted extremism and dependency on international financial aid. Referring to Pakistan as a "serial IMF borrower," he criticized its leadership for promoting cross-border terrorism while attempting to lecture others on peace.

He condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians lost their lives, and justified India's retaliatory move, Operation Sindoor, carried out on May 7. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and ended on May 10 after Pakistan requested a ceasefire.

Ambassador Harish also emphasized the rising threats posed by non-state actors, supported by state entities, and facilitated through modern digital platforms. He underlined India’s commitment to peace, highlighting its leadership in UN peacekeeping missions and advocating for reforms in the UN Security Council to make it more representative.

In a broader reflection, Harish called on the international community to uphold the UN Charter’s ideals and warned against growing disillusionment with multilateral institutions like the UN.
