BJP fell short of majority by 32 seats

We will take appropriate steps at appropriate time: Kharge

People's mandate has given a befitting reply to BJP: Kharge

With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) falling short of the majority mark by 32 seats, there are interesting permutations and combinations which are possible as far as political alignments in the future are concerned. There were speculations that the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc would make attempts to form the government by trying to get in touch with some leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) bloc. The statement from the Indian National Congress (INC) President Mallikarjun Kharge however indicates that INDIA is willing to play the waiting game. “The INDIA Bloc will continue to fight against the fascist rule of the BJP led by Modi. We will take appropriate steps at the appropriate time to realise the people’s desire not to be ruled by the BJP govt. This is our decision that whatever promises we have made to the people, we will keep it up,” Kharge stated on X.

Despite not having the requisite numbers needed to form the government, the INDIA bloc took solace in the vote share that they received. This came as a relief given that in 2014 and 2019 their performance was rather underwhelming. “The constituents of the INDIA Bloc thank the people of India for the overwhelming support received by our alliance. The people’s mandate has given a befitting reply to the BJP and their politics of hate, corruption and deprivation. This is a political and moral defeat of Prime Minister, Sh Narendra Modi. This is a mandate in defence of the Constitution of India and against price rise, unemployment, and crony capitalism and also to save democracy,” Kharge remarked.
