The issue of unemployment was constantly raked up during the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. It continues to be one of the themes around which leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc have target the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. “At a time when India faces a severe Modi-made unemployment crisis, when lakhs of young people apply for each and every job, the self-anointed non-biological PM is busy reacting the only way he knows -- by applying his patented 3D model of denying, distracting, and distorting. The reality on the jobs front, however, is extremely grim – both because of mass unemployment and an abundance of low-quality employment. This dual tragedy will certainly get overlooked in the Budget speech next Tuesday,” the General Secretary in-charge communications for the Indian National Congress (INC) Jairam Ramesh’s statement mentioned.
The statement highlighted concerns with PM Modi’s assertion that 8 crore jobs have been created in the last 3-4 years. The statement alleged that unpaid domestic labour and informal labour were also added within the ambit of employment to project inflated figures. “Recently, the RBI has released a report regarding jobs. According to the report, in the last 3-4 years, around 8 crore new jobs have been created in the country. These figures have silenced those who spread false narratives,” PM Modi said during the inauguration of development projects in Mumbai.
