A post office in the Tiptur city in the Tumkur district had issued instructions pertaining to the impermissible items that could be sent via international mail and the procedure to be followed in sent via international mail in only Hindi and English. This had irked a citizen who had visited the post office. He took photos of these posters. He subsequently posted about this on Twitter. He had characterised the incident as an instance of Hindi imposition. He had tagged the official account of the India Post Office along with other accounts including the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

The India Post had replied to this. “The suitable instructions has been issued to concerned office that board should be in trilingual format with regional language. It will be incorporated soon,” the official twitter account of the India Post said.

This however caused further controversy. Users questioned what is the relevance of using Hindi in Karnataka. They pointed out that this policy was not in use in north Indian states. Kannada is not used in Lucknow, one user highlighted. Some pointed out that regions of Dakshina Kannada would need a trilingual policy of English, Kannada, Tulu.
