India has successfully conducted validation trials of its indigenously developed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM), a sophisticated underwater naval weapon designed to target stealth ships and submarines. The trials were conducted as a joint effort by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy. Developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam along with other DRDO labs, the MIGM represents a significant leap in undersea warfare capability.

The DRDO released footage of the test, which include a controlled underwater explosion using reduced explosives. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised the success of the trial, stating that the system would significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s operational strength in undersea warfare.

MIGM features advanced sensors capable of detecting acoustic, magnetic, pressure and other unique vessel signatures. Bharat Dynamics Limited is the key production partner, with Apollo Microsystems and facilities in Vishakapatnam also contributing.

This test follows a series of recent naval demonstrations, including the precision destruction of a sea-skimming target by INS Surat and successful firings of BrahMos cruise missiles from Indian warships. Amid increased Indo-Pak tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, these advancements underline India’s growing maritime strength.
The Navy recently shared visuals of warships, submarines, and helicopters symbolizing its “Trident of Naval Power.”
