India has formally reached out to Bangladesh, urging the government to take robust measures to ensure the safety of the Hindu community following incidents of arson in Chittagong. The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Thursday highlighting India's concern for the well-being of Hindus after multiple reports surfaced of violence in the region, including the burning of homes and shops belonging to tribal Hindus.

The unrest in Chittagong reportedly intensified after a clash between the Hindu community and law enforcement, allegedly triggered by a controversial Facebook post critical of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). In recent weeks, calls from various groups for a ban on ISKCON in Bangladesh have further fueled tensions among religious communities.

In response, India has pressed Bangladesh to act decisively to maintain peace and protect minority rights. This request comes as Hindus in Bangladesh are reportedly facing increased challenges following political changes, including the exit of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, known for her relatively supportive stance toward minority communities.

The Indian government expressed its deep concern about the ongoing turmoil and underscored the need for stability and security for all citizens in Bangladesh, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding communal harmony and the rights of minority groups.
