The year 2011 is etched in the annals of Indian cricketing history as Team India won the 50-over World Cup, after a hiatus of 28 years, under the captainship of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Though he gets the credit for it, another player who has an equal share in it is Gautam Gambhir. In the final, he scored an invaluable 97 that aided the hosts to chase a decent total.

Talking of Gambhir, he has revealed that he has not washed his jersey even to this day. It’s been a long 13-year journey since lifting the World Cup, but the memories attached to the jersey are immortal, standing testimony to the millions of aspirations of holding the cup aloft.
“I still have not washed my ‘dirty’ jersey from the 2011 World Cup final. I will frame it and put it upon the cabinet.”
The desperate dive
During his innings, Gambhir had even successfully dived desperately once as he was on 49. As he dived, his jersey rubbed against the mud on the ground. And that mud or dirt is iconic!
