The Indian Navy has announced that the 2025 edition of Navy Day will be held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, with major events centred around the Arabian Sea. The decision highlights the Navy's strategic emphasis on this maritime zone, especially in the wake of recent operations and regional security developments.

According to the Defence Ministry, the venue was selected after thorough discussions and aligns with the government's broader vision of holding key national events across different regions of the country. Last year’s Navy Day festivities took place in Puri, Odisha, along the Bay of Bengal.
This year’s focus on the Arabian Sea follows the Navy’s demonstrated readiness during Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack. During that operation, the Navy maintained dominance across the seas, with forward deployment strategies that limited Pakistan’s naval manoeuvres.
The post-operation period has seen the Navy push for greater modernization, with investments of Rs 4,000-Rs 5,000 crore to enhance its fleet of warships and submarines.
Navy Day, observed every December 4, commemorates the success of ‘Operation Trident’ in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The operation proved to be a decisive moment, as Indian missile boats caused significant destruction to Karachi port, showcasing the Indian Navy’s offensive capabilities.
As part of the celebrations, the Indian Navy will showcase its combat preparedness through live operational displays involving ships, submarines, and aircraft. Fly-pasts by helicopters and fighter jets will also be featured. Additionally, ship open days will allow civilians, especially students, to explore naval vessels and gain a glimpse into the lives of sailors.
