The iconic Indian fusion band Indian Ocean is embroiled in controversy as its former guitarist and co-founder, Susmit Sen, has filed a police complaint against his former bandmates, Rahul Ram and Amit Kilam. Susmit’s legal action is taken jointly with Sunita Chakravarty, the wife of the late Ashim Chakravarty, a co-founder of Indian Ocean. The complaint also names Kandisa Music Productions Pvt Ltd, the company that manages the band, as a party involved in the alleged irregularities.

In a statement addressing the dispute, Susmit expressed his reluctance in taking legal action against the band he helped establish. “Having founded the band with Ashim (Chakravarty), it gives me no pleasure to take police action against it today,” Susmit said. He emphasized his deep connection to the band, noting, “In fact, it was my father (Ajit Kumar Sen) who had named the band that I formed with Ashim in 1990, and I am still a shareholder at the company (Kandisa Music Productions Pvt Ltd) that runs the band.”

Susmit also highlighted his pivotal role in the band’s formation and success, stating, “What I have had to go through is really unfortunate, given that me and Ashim had founded the band, and I was its composer and lead guitarist.”

The case brings to light the inner discord within one of India’s most beloved bands, leaving fans and the music community in shock.
