In a stunning display of dominance, three young Indian batsmen — Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant — smashed centuries in the first innings of the opening Test against England, sending a clear message about India’s batting depth.
Batting first after losing the toss, India piled on 454 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, led by the elegant strokeplay of opener Jaiswal and captain Gill. Jaiswal, calm and composed, set the tone with a gritty hundred, while Gill anchored the innings with class, missing 150 by just 3 runs, falling for 147 off 227 balls (19 fours, 1 six).

The highlight, however, was wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant’s blistering knock. Walking in after Sai Sudharsan’s golden duck, Pant turned the tide with aggressive strokeplay. He brought up his century in trademark style — smashing a six while on 99 — and followed it with a celebratory front flip that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Pant’s 134 off 178 balls featured 12 boundaries and 6 sixes before he was dismissed by Josh Tongue.
While Gill led from the front, Kannadiga Karun Nair failed to make an impact, departing for a duck after facing just four balls. Despite the hiccup, India's batting fireworks, especially Pant's explosive century, left England’s bowlers reeling and fans thrilled.
This innings marks a powerful statement from India’s next-gen stars in the five-match series.
