Indore has once again emerged as India's cleanest city, securing the top spot for the eighth consecutive time in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, the country’s largest cleanliness assessment survey. Surat and Navi Mumbai followed in second and third places, respectively.

The awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a national ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) initiative. The survey evaluates urban areas on criteria like sanitation, waste management systems, and citizen involvement.

Indore’s sustained success is credited to its robust cleanliness infrastructure and community-driven approach. The city has introduced strict waste segregation practices, prioritized reduction of garbage generation, and instilled a strong culture of cleanliness among all sections of society, including local vendors, transport workers, and everyday citizens.

The award announcement closely followed remarks by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who had earlier expressed confidence in Indore’s continued leadership in urban cleanliness. Yadav also praised the new category in the awards that considers both past accomplishments and future potential.
