Infosys co-founder Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan and former IISc Director P. Balaram, along with 16 others, have been booked under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act. Bengaluru police filed the case on January 27 following an order from the 71st Civil and Sessions Court.

The complaint was lodged by Durgappa, a former faculty member at IISc’s Centre for Sustainable Technology and a member of the Bovi tribal community. He alleged that he was wrongfully implicated in a honey trap case in 2014, which ultimately led to his dismissal from the institute. Durgappa accused Gopalakrishnan, a member of IISc’s Board of Trustees, and several faculty members, including current IISc Director Govindan Rangarajan, of orchestrating his termination to tarnish his reputation.
The Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act carries strict penalties for offenses against Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe members, including imprisonment.
Gopalakrishnan, a celebrated business leader and Padma Bhushan awardee, was CEO and vice chairman of Infosys between 2007 and 2014 and has held leadership roles in prominent global organizations.
Neither Gopalakrishnan nor IISc has issued an official response to the allegations.
The case has generated significant public interest, with online searches for Gopalakrishnan surging across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Jharkhand, reflecting heightened attention to the legal and ethical implications of the allegations.
