In a striking display of ingenuity and urgency, the Civil Defence Force has begun distributing food packets and ration supplies to stranded residents of Sai Layout, one of the worst-hit areas in Bengaluru due to ongoing torrential rains. With ground floors completely submerged and streets transformed into water channels, authorities are now using a JCB (earthmover) to raise and reach the first floors of flooded buildings to deliver essential supplies.

The front bucket of the JCB is being elevated to the height of the first floors, where volunteers and civil defence personnel hand over food packets, drinking water, and basic ration kits to families trapped inside their homes. This unique method, born out of necessity, has drawn attention to the gravity of the situation in Sai Layout, while also highlighting the dedication of emergency responders.
Beyond the supply shortage, Sai Layout is battling multiple crises, snake sightings in waterlogged lanes, an increase in illnesses like fever, skin infections, and cold, and the complete breakdown of routine services. Civil defence teams and health workers are coordinating efforts to address both the immediate need for food and the growing health concerns.
Officials say food distribution efforts will continue until the water recedes and safe ground access is restored.
