IPL 2024: Glenn Maxwell decides to opt out, set to rejuvenate himself

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has taken an indefinite break from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, citing mental and physical fatigue. Maxwell made the announcement during a press conference following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, a match in which he was notably absent from the playing XI.

Maxwell, who has faced criticism for his poor form with the bat, expressed his decision to step back from the tournament after consulting with RCB captain Faf du Plessis and the coaching staff. He acknowledged his recent struggles and emphasized the need to address his mental and physical well-being.

The 34-year-old, known for his explosive batting, highlighted a decline in performance, particularly after the powerplay overs, which prompted him to relinquish his spot in the team. Maxwell's decision comes as a familiar move, having previously taken breaks from the game to combat mental fatigue.

Despite his disappointing run in the IPL, Maxwell remains optimistic about his potential impact if required later in the tournament. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar had earlier criticized Maxwell's inability to play fast bowling effectively.

As Maxwell takes a hiatus, RCB will explore alternative options to bolster their lineup, while the Australian looks to rejuvenate himself and stage a comeback stronger than before.
