Tensions between Iran and Israel erupted into direct confrontation over the weekend, marking a sharp and dangerous shift in Middle Eastern geopolitics. What began as a targeted military offensive by Israel quickly spiraled into a full-blown exchange of missile attacks, impacting major urban centers and escalating fears of regional war.

Early in the morning, Iran launched a significant missile attack on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem under the code name “Operation True Promise,” following a massive Israeli airstrike on Friday that targeted Iranian military and nuclear sites. The Iranian attack left at least one person dead and over 30 others injured. Sirens and explosions were reported across Israel’s largest cities as emergency services responded to the sudden barrage.

Israel, in turn, struck back with force under “Operation Rising Sun,” deploying drones and aircraft to hit high-value targets in Tehran and other Iranian regions. Iranian media reported that key infrastructure and military bases were damaged, including incidents near Mehrabad Airport. Fires broke out across parts of the Iranian capital, with dozens feared killed or injured. The Israeli military confirmed that its strike was part of a broader effort to neutralize what it describes as a long-term threat to national security.

Among the casualties were senior Iranian military officials, including high-ranking commanders who led the Revolutionary Guard and oversaw Iran's missile program. Their deaths are expected to further strain the possibility of diplomacy.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a dire warning following the Israeli assault, vowing that Iran would deliver a retaliating response. Meanwhile, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that military operations would intensify until Iran’s nuclear capabilities were crushed and dismantled.

Though the United States denied direct involvement, it acknowledged monitoring the situation closely, with its regional defense systems assisting in neutralizing some Iranian missiles.

India, meanwhile, has expressed deep concern and called on both nations to exercise maximum restraint.
