The Mumbai Indians (MI) are out of the race for the playoffs in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for all practical purposes after having lost 8 of their games. Mathematically however, a series of permutations and combinations can still take them through. MI captain Hardik Pandya was asked about this in the post match presentation after MI’s encounter with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). “I don’t know which mathematical situation we’re talking about, but at the same time, you want to focus on playing good cricket. I think we were quite good with the ball today, still reckon 10-15 runs extra, but nevertheless, the way the batters batted was brilliant,” Pandya said.

Pandya picked up 3 wickets in his 4-over spell whereas Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav scored a 51-ball 102 to take Mumbai to a 7-wicket victory with 16 balls to spare. Pandya reflected on this during the post match presentation. “My bowling, I do the stuff, I do. I like to bowl in the right areas, I bowl according to the situation. Today, it was nipping around, and that worked. SKY was unbelievable. More than him getting runs, him putting so much pressure on bowlers that even other batters get loose balls. He breaks you. He’s evolved. Lucky to have him in my team. Hope to have many more such innings,” Pandya added.
