  • Adaptive traffic signal system has been recommended
  • 10 crucial junctions have been identified
  • Estimated cost for the project would be Rs 33.9 crore

The Institute for Social and Economic Change submitted a report to the Government of Karnataka with insights into possible remedial measures that can be taken to tackle the traffic conundrum the city faces.

Firstly an adaptive traffic signal system has been recommended which changes the duration of red and green signals based on the density of traffic.

Apart from this the solutions offered by the report are specific to the spots wherein the congestion occurs.

10 crucial junctions have been identified wherein these recommendations can be implemented. These are Silk Board, Ibballur, Kadubeesanahalli, Dairy Circle, Tin Factory, Hebbal, Goraguntepalya, Sarakki, Banashankari, and Kumaraswamy Layout.

An underpass has been suggested for the Sarakki signal. For the Kadubeesanahalli junction, the plan involves providing an alternative path for vehicles that are headed towards Marathahalli via the Bellandur railway station. A pedestrian crossing and elevated walkway has been suggested for the Dairy Circle junction.

It is estimated the cost of this project would be Rs 33.9 crore wherein close to 9 crore would have to be invested into building and maintaining footpaths throughout the city. The planned innovations at various junctions would incur a cost of close to 25 crore.
