ISKCON has refuted Maneka Gandhi's claims

In a video that is now viral, Maneka Gandhi has levelled allegations of selling cows to butchers on the  The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).”The biggest deceivers in the country are ISKCON. They establish gaushalas (cow-sheds) and avail benefits from the government on its account.  Land is allocated for this as well. I recently visited a gaushala in Anantapur. There wasn’t a single dry cow. All of them were dairies. There wasn’t a single calf. This means all of them were sold. No one matches them in this regard. They chant Hare Rama Hare Krishna on the streets and claim that their life is dependent on milk. They are probably the leading sellers of calf to butchers. If they can do this, what about the rest?,” she states in the one-minute clip.

ISKCON has responded to the allegations by refuting the claims. National Spokesperson for ISKCON Yudhistir Govind Das posted his response on X.

“ISKCON has been at the forefront of cow and bull protection and care not just in India but globally. The cows and bulls are served for their life not sold to butchers as alleged,” he posted

“ISKCON has pioneered cow protection in many parts of the world where beef is a staple diet. Within India, ISKCON runs more than 60 gaushalas protecting hundreds of sacred cows and bulls and providing personalised care for their entire lifetime. Many of the cows presently served in ISCKON’s gaushalas were brought to us after being found abandoned, injured, or rescued from being slaughtered,” the post mentioned.
