The Indian Embassy in Tehran is actively coordinating with local authorities and community leaders to identify and assist citizens needing evacuation. The initial focus is on Mashhad, one of Iran’s major cities, where a considerable number of Indians, including students, pilgrims, and professionals, are currently residing.
Indian officials have stated that arrangements for special flights are underway, with priority being given to vulnerable groups, including women, children, and elderly citizens. The embassy is also urging Indians in other parts of Iran to register their details to enable swift evacuation planning if the situation deteriorates further.
Operation Sindhu underscores India’s long-standing commitment to protecting its diaspora during overseas crises. Similar evacuation efforts in the past, such as Operation Ganga in Ukraine and Operation Kaveri in Sudan, have successfully repatriated thousands of Indian nationals under challenging conditions.
