Heeramandi has been receiving positive reviews ever since its release on Netflix. The performance of actress Sharmin Segal has however come under scrutiny for supposedly being monotonous. “Honestly, I wasn’t aware that people were trolling her until now. I don’t know what audiences have liked or not liked about Sharmin, but I’ve seen her trying her best like everyone else on the sets. It doesn’t matter who’s being trolled, but trolling is a bad thing to do. Criticism is one thing; healthy criticism is always welcome, but trolling is unacceptable. It is a very negative way of approaching anyone. It is a kind of mental harassment. If it is happening, I am very concerned for her right now,” actress Shruti Sharma said in an interview with Pinkvilla.

Sharmin faced accusations of getting the role for being the niece of the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She even had to turn off her Instagram comment section to deal with the trolling. Actress Aditi Rao Hydari defended her amidst the backlash. “It’s horrible to pick on anybody. I know some people like something and some people don’t. There is a way to say it. It can get very mean. It has gotten very mean and I think it’s not fair and it shouldn’t happen like that. I don’t know what else to say but I do feel bad. I think we should all understand it and be there for each other. I also feel people do what they think is important to them. If some people want to be mean, that is their prerogative. We have to find a way around it otherwise it will be really difficult. Whoever is facing it, I would just say, ‘look at the positive,” Aditi said in an interview with Puja Talwar.
