It goes a long way in preserving Nature

In less than a week, India is all set to celebrate Ganesha festival.

As part of the festival, colourful and highly attractive Ganesha and Gauri idols are brought home and worshipped. Though there is nothing wrong in worshipping these idols, on the flip side, when these idols are immersed in water bodies, they may harm the environment as the colours used need not be environment-friendly.

As this is a grave issue, it is always recommended that Ganesha idols made out of mud be used for the celebration. At the same time, many are coming up with ingenious ways to ensure the environment is not harmed!

In one such endeavour, students of Arena Animation, Malleswaram, Bengaluru, were taught how to make environment-friendly Ganesha idols in a unique way.

BS Srinivas, Director of the institute says, “These special Ganesha idols have seeds in them. They can be planted also. We call this workshop ‘Craft with Devotion. It is a very useful venture,”

As per this technique, Ganesha idols are made using clay. But as and when it is made, seeds are embedded within it. Once the idols are immersed, seeds sprout, thereby giving birth to saplings.

The workshop was conducted under the aegis of Hemanth, a potter by profession. He has spent more than a decade in this profession, understanding its nitty-gritty.

Through this workshop, the school hopes to ingrain priceless values in their students. Though it is good to be adept in technology, it is equally important that you nurture nature not just for our own well-being but also for future!
