  • Demand for the Kannada dubbed version increases

Rajinikanth’s last 2 outings, Darbar and Annathe had failed to make a significant mark in the box office. This had left many wondering if his stature as an unparalleled hero of the masses was slowly fading. The doubts were further magnified when the director of the film, faced failure with his venture, Beast featuring Thalapathy Vijay. But the duo were firm and confident about their abilities and Jailer has impressed the audience and in the process silenced the nay-sayers.

The film has managed to collect 450 crore at a global level within one week of its release. The domestic collections itself stretch beyond Rs 200 crore and amount to a total of Rs 225.65 crore. In Tamil Nadu alone the film has collected more than 150 crore within one week making it the fastest to get to this landmark. Even on weekdays the theatres were half full in most theatres across Tamil Nadu. This is despite the fact that it is facing heavy competition from other releases such as Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Akshay Kumar’s O.M.G 2 and Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar.

In an interesting set of developments, the demand for the Kannada dubbed version of the film has seen an increase in demand, especially in the regions surrounding Mysuru. Shiva Rajkumar fans have been ecstatic even though his presence in the film does not extend beyond 15 minutes.
