Japanese community holds a cultural event on Japanese clothing in Bengaluru

The Sakuraa Nihongo Resource Centre (SNRC) recently held an event highlighting Japanese clothing and its culture in the city. SNRC a twenty-year old Japanese language service provider in the city.

The national dress of Japan, Kimonos was the central spotlight of this fashion event. This event was held as part of the SNRC’s inaugural cultural utsav called “Sakura Akira”.

The event was all about knowing and understanding Japan’s Kimono clothing culture. At the event, a fashion show showcased eight beautiful and intricate Kimono garments.

According to Sensei Srividhya A., the co-founder of the Sakuraa Nihongo Resource Centre, Kimono clothing patterns are influenced by seasons and nature highlighting seasonal flowers and birds to ocean waves.

She said culture is a powerful educational tool and clothing is the most obvious expression of this culture. This culture needs to be shown to students and this event is exactly aimed at this. Food, clothing and shelter are the three basic necessities of life and we are laying emphasis on clothing, added Sensei.

Eight students of the Sakuraa Nihongo Resource Centre dressed up in kimonos and perfectly adorned with accessories were the centre of attraction of the fashion show event at Bhoomika Hall in Malleswaram.

This event also featured two primary styles of Kimonos for men and five major styles for women. A deep green and wide-sleeved kimono called the furisode was the stunning clothing on display at the event. Sensei has bought the kimonos straight from Japan to India.

SNRC not only provides language training to students, but also offers document translations, interpretation services and bilingual staffing solutions. SNRC has helped over 25,000 students learn Japanese language and its culture.
