A 65-year-old woman was rescued from her locked home in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district after being left behind by her son while he and his family traveled to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. Sanju Devi’s son, Akhilesh Kumar, had allegedly locked her inside their Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) quarter in Subhash Nagar colony on Monday before departing with his wife, children, and in-laws. It was only after her daughter, Chandni Devi, was informed that the police intervened and rescued her on Wednesday.

Weakened by hunger, the elderly woman reportedly attempted to eat plastic in desperation. After being freed, neighbors provided her with food before she was taken to the CCL hospital for treatment.

Kumar later claimed that he had left his mother behind due to her health condition but insisted that arrangements had been made for her care. However, his daughter has now expressed her willingness to take her mother in.

The shocking incident has sparked outrage, highlighting concerns about the treatment of elderly family members. Authorities are investigating the matter while ensuring that Sanju Devi receives the necessary medical attention and care.
