Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists and left several others injured, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced financial relief for the victims and their families. The attack occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Baisaran, a scenic meadow near the town of Pahalgam, often referred to as ‘Mini Switzerland’ due to its natural beauty. Heavily armed terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists, turning a peaceful visit into a horrifying massacre.

As part of the government’s compensation package, the next of kin of each deceased victim will receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh. Those who sustained serious injuries will be given Rs 2 lakh, while those with minor injuries will receive Rs 1 lakh. The decision aims to provide some measure of financial support and solace to the affected families as they recover from this devastating loss.

The announcement comes amid growing national grief and outrage, as this attack is among the deadliest targeting civilians in the Kashmir Valley in recent years. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and tighten security across the region to prevent further violence.
