The much-anticipated leopard safari at Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) is on the brink of commencing, pending final arrangements.
According to recent directives from Forest, Environment, and Ecology Minister Eshwar Khandre, authorities overseeing the park have been tasked with initiating the leopard safari, which will complement the existing lion and tiger safaris.
The launch date hinges on several factors, chiefly the successful bonding and training of the leopards. It is anticipated that the safari will be open to the public within the next six weeks.
Spanning across 20 hectares of land, BBP has meticulously designed the enclosure for the safari. It features high-rise mesh and strategically placed fences to prevent any potential escapes, acknowledging the agility and cunning nature of leopards. Careful consideration has been given to eliminate any possible escape routes.
Currently, the enclosure houses approximately 12 leopards, with capacity for up to 20. The process of gradually introducing new leopards is underway to ensure smooth acclimatization and mitigate potential conflicts. All leopards destined for the safari are under one year of age, having been hand-reared in the zoo after being rescued within their first two months of life.
As anticipation mounts, visitors can look forward to an immersive safari experience that not only showcases the beauty of these majestic creatures but also underscores BBP's commitment to wildlife conservation and responsible tourism.
