The ceremony witnessed the presence of several prominent figures from the judiciary and the state government. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti were among the dignitaries in attendance. Following the formal proceedings, Governor Gehlot felicitated the newly appointed Chief Justice.
Justice Bakhru, who now heads the judiciary in Karnataka, brings a wealth of experience from his tenure at the Delhi High Court, where he served as a senior judge. His elevation to the Chief Justice’s post followed the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation.
Born in Nagpur in 1966, Justice Bakhru completed his schooling in Delhi and initially pursued chartered accountancy. He earned his law degree in 1990 and began his legal practice the same year. Over the years, he built a distinguished legal career, appearing before various judicial forums including the Supreme Court and the Company Law Board.
He was designated a Senior Advocate in 2011 and appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in 2013, becoming a Permanent Judge in 2015. His appointment to Karnataka marks a new chapter in his judicial journey.
