Kabosu, the beloved Shiba Inu who became an internet sensation as the “Doge” meme and inspired the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, has passed away peacefully. The official Dogecoin account announced her death on X, sharing, “Today Kabosu, our community’s shared friend and inspiration, peacefully passed in the arms of her person. She was a being who knew only happiness and limitless love.”

Her owner, in a heartfelt blog post, announced a “farewell party for Kabo-chan” on Sunday, May 26, at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1 pm to 4 pm. They shared that Kabosu enjoyed her last meal and drank plenty of water the night before she passed away quietly in her sleep.
Diagnosed with leukemia and liver disease in 2022, Kabosu remained a symbol of resilience and joy. Her owner expressed deep gratitude, believing Kabosu remains close in spirit, smiling and wagging her tail. Kabosu will forever be remembered as the happiest dog, leaving a lasting legacy of love and joy.
