In the Mahabharata, Ashwatthama is born with a precious stone (mani) on his forehead, protecting him from demons and spirits.
However, he is later cursed by Krishna to live for 3,000 years with a festering wound on his forehead as punishment for killing the sons of the Pandavas. This powerful character is brought to life by Bachchan, whose performance makes it seem as if the entire movie revolves around Ashwatthama.
The role demanded intense physicality, including a popular action sequence between Bhairava and Ashwatthama. This scene, requiring meticulous rehearsals, was specially choreographed by martial arts expert Andy Long. Behind-the-scenes footage of the cast rehearsing these stunts has impressed fans, particularly the dedication and stamina of the 82-year-old Bachchan.
Despite recent health complications, Bachchan’s portrayal oozes great energy and skill. Known for his diverse roles across different genres, his performance in "Kalki 2898 AD" reaffirms why he is considered a legend in the industry.
Kamal Hassan and Amitabh Bachchan with their stellar performances prove that age knows no barrier in the performing arts. Both actors continue to showcase their prime talent, giving younger actors a run for their money and solidifying their status as icons in Indian cinema.
