Tamil actor and politician Kamal Haasan has once again refused to apologize for his recent statement linking the origin of the Kannada language to Tamil, despite widespread outrage in Karnataka.
Over the past two days, Kannadigas have staged protests demanding an apology from Haasan, accusing him of disrespecting the Kannada language and identity. However, speaking to the media in Chennai today, the actor remained defiant, stating he would not apologize unless he had done something wrong.

“This is a democracy. I believe in law and justice,” Haasan asserted. “I truly love Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala. If I’ve done anything wrong, I will apologize — but I haven’t. I am not afraid of threats.”
Haasan’s comments come at a politically significant time, as he is preparing to contest the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Earlier today, he met with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to discuss his nomination.
The controversy erupted after Haasan claimed that the Kannada language originated from Tamil, a statement that many in Karnataka found offensive. His refusal to retract the remark has further inflamed the issue, turning it into a flashpoint ahead of his political entry into Parliament.
As tensions remain high, all eyes are on what Kamal Haasan’s next move will be — both in politics and in addressing the ongoing linguistic row.
