Kamal Haasan’s highly anticipated film, Indian 2, will make its digital debut on Netflix starting August 9. The announcement was made by the streaming platform via Instagram on Sunday.

Directed by S. Shankar and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin and A. Subaskaran, Indian 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed 1996 film Indian, which also featured Haasan. The movie, which hit theaters on July 12, was released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Netflix’s Instagram post teased fans with the return of Haasan in his iconic role of Senapathy, a freedom fighter turned vigilante who takes on corruption in India. “Buckle up. Indian Thatha is back to take on the system again. #Indian2 is coming to Netflix on August 9 in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada! #Indian2OnNetflix,” the post read.

The sequel also stars Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, S.J. Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, and Rakul Preet Singh. Although the film received mixed reviews from critics upon its theatrical release, its digital release is expected to attract a significant viewership.

The film Indian 2 has reportedly earned over Rs 150 crore at the global box office. The makers have reaped significant profits, bolstered by substantial earnings from the film’s pre-release business.

Following Indian 2, Haasan recently appeared in the pan-India blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin.
