Tamil actor Kamal Haasan has once again landed in controversy, this time for his remarks about the Kannada language during the audio launch of his upcoming film Thug Life in Chennai. His statement suggesting that "Kannada was born out of Tamil" has sparked widespread outrage in Karnataka, particularly among pro-Kannada groups.

Speaking at the event with Kannada actor Shivarajkumar present on stage, Haasan said, “Your language was born out of Tamil,” referring to Kannada, while adding that “my life and my family is Tamil.” The statement has been widely condemned across Karnataka for being historically inaccurate and disrespectful.

Prior to this, the actor also appeared to provoke Hindi speakers, suggesting that people should learn other languages before learning Hindi.

These comments have angered several Kannada organisations, who have launched protests across the state. Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and other groups have voiced strong opposition to Haasan’s words, with some tearing down posters of Thug Life in cities like Bengaluru.

Karave State President Praveen Shetty has warned that if Kamal Haasan continues to insult Kannada or Karnataka, his films will face a ban in the state. “He left before we could smear him with black ink,” Shetty said, in a sharp reaction to the incident.
