In a key development, the makers of Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated film Emergency have agreed to implement the changes suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Revising Committee of the CBFC had advised 13 cuts and alterations to the film in order to grant it a ‘UA’ certification. The board’s suggestions included the removal of a few violent scenes and a reference to Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, which had sparked concerns from Sikh groups over the film’s portrayal of their community.

Emergency, directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut, revolves around the political turmoil during India’s 1975-77 Emergency period under then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film, slated for a September 6 release, has faced significant scrutiny for its depiction of historical figures.

The court is set to review the revised version of the film on October 3. While Ranaut has yet to comment on the changes, the decision to accept the CBFC’s cuts is seen as an effort to avoid legal delays and ensure a timely release.

The film features a notable ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, and Milind Soman.
