In a disturbing incident in Hyderabad, a bakery named ‘Karachi Bakery’ was vandalized, reportedly Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers. The attack took place against the backdrop of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, with the name ‘Karachi’, a prominent city in Pakistan, being the primary reason for the outrage.

According to the initial reports, BJP workers stormed the bakery, waving the Indian national flag and saffron flags, and shouted slogans such as ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’and anit-Pakistan chants. They allegedly damaged the bakery’s items and property, expressing their anger at the establishment’s name, which they claimed is associated with Pakistan.
The attackers accused the bakery of bearing the name of an “Enemy nation”, despite the fact that Karachi Bakery is an Indian-origin brand that has been operating for decades and was originally founded by Sindhi migrant post-partition.
Despite the intensity of the protest and destruction caused, no arrests have been reported so far. This incident raised concerns about rising nationalism and translating into vigilantism and the misunderstanding of historical context behind business names.
Authorities are yet to comment on whether any action will be taken against those involved.
