A major security breach occurred early this morning at the Malir District Jail in Karachi, where a large group of inmates managed to escape after breaking through the prison walls. According to initial reports, a total of 216 prisoners fled the jail during the chaos caused by a series of tremors that had unsettled the city.

Police and jail authorities confirmed that over 20 of the escapees have already been recaptured, and search operations are ongoing to locate and detain the remaining fugitives. Law enforcement officials have urged the public not to shelter any escaped prisoners and to immediately report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

In the wake of the incident, DIG of Prisons Hasan Saheto and Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Muhammad Shamraiz visited the jail to assess the situation and inspect the security arrangements. Preliminary investigations have revealed serious lapses in prison management and internal security protocols.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has directed the Inspector General of Prisons and other senior officials to submit a detailed report on the incident. He has assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of negligence, emphasizing that the government will not tolerate such failures in sensitive security institutions.
