Soldiers who were at the forefront of the Kargil War in 1999 and the family members of those who were slain were present at the Lamochan view point, Ladakh to mark a 2 day event for the remembrance of the 559 martyrs. A cultural program was held and candles were lit in the memory of the soldier as well. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also attended the event and paid his tribute to the soldiers. Flower petals were showered from MIG 29 aircrafts and Cheetal helicopters while traversing across the Kargil War memorial.
Tributes pour in for war heroes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to post about the day. “Kargil Vijay Diwas brings to the forefront the herculean chronicles of the lionhearted soldiers who are a constant source of inspiration for the whole nation. On this auspicious day I pay my heartfelt salutations and obeisance to them,” he tweeted.

Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah also posted his tribute to the martyrs on Twitter. “On thisKargil Vijay Divas, I pay my sincere tributes to all our Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives & dreams to protect our nation. Their courage is an inspiration to each & every Indian. The entire nation is forever indebted to the soldiers,” he tweeted.
