A retired Indian Army soldier who served for over two decades, including the Kargil War, is now battling a different kind of war, against bureaucracy and alleged land fraud. Ninganagouda Patil, a veteran from Yadgir, has been tirelessly seeking justice for the past five years over a land dispute that has left him emotionally and financially drained.

After retiring from the Indian Army in 2017, Patil returned to his hometown of Hunsagi in Yadgir district. With his hard-earned savings, he purchased a 60/40 site from Venkatesh Surendra Rao Deshpande and Upendra Rao Deshpande. The plot was located 60 feet away from the district’s main road, with adequate road access confirmed during the purchase. Supporting documents even indicated that space had been set aside for a road.
However, in 2020, local urban development authorities conducted a land reclassification and shockingly declared that Patil’s plot now lay within a proposed road. This unexpected change nullified his ownership claims and left him unable to use or develop his land. Despite presenting legal documents to prove his rightful purchase, his claims were dismissed.
Patil has approached multiple authorities including the Chief Minister, Revenue Minister, Police Commissioner, and the District Collector, but to no avail. He now appeals to the public and media for help, expressing anguish that a soldier who once protected the nation is now being denied justice in his own land.
