Karnataka: 3 arrested after woman commits suicide due to Rs 1.5 crore incurred as debt by husband through IPL betting

    Darshan is reported to have repaid more than Rs 1 crore out of the incurred debts

    Threats of imminent humiliation were made to Darshan

A shocking incident wherein a woman committed suicide because her husband incurred debts amounting to Rs 1.5 crore for betting in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The deceased has been identified as Ranjitha. 3 persons named Girish, Shivu and Venkatesh have been arrested with regard to this incident. The incident occurred in the Holalkere town in the Chitradurga district in Karnataka. 

The Holalkere police have identified 13 persons for their potential involvement in this racket. The police or on the lookout for the 10 others who are absconding. 

Darshan Babu had incurred a debt of Rs 1.5 crore due to betting in the IPL. He is reported to have repaid more than Rs 1 crore out of this. Rs 54 lakh was still due. Threats of imminent humiliation were made to Darshan to clear his dues. 

The suspects lured Darshan by promising him lots of money. Ranjitha’s father Venkatesh has filed a complaint pertaining to the incident.
