The Karnataka government has assured residents that there will be no power cuts this summer despite rising electricity demand. With an installed capacity of 34,000 MW and additional power sourced through various channels, the state is equipped to meet its energy needs.

As temperatures soar, the daily power demand is expected to surpass 19,000 MW. However, authorities have confirmed that supply will remain uninterrupted. The state's peak load reached 17,874 MW on February 27 without any shortfall, demonstrating its preparedness.

To further bolster energy availability, Karnataka has secured additional power from the NTPC plant at Kudgi in Vijayapura. The state has also acquired an extra 50% share from NTPC’s unallocated quota and continues energy banking arrangements with Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. These agreements enable Karnataka to receive power during peak summer and return it during monsoon months when demand subsides.

Plans are in motion to procure 1,000 MW of power from the energy exchange at rates between ₹6.75 and ₹6.85 per unit.

Meanwhile, the state is focusing on developing storage solutions, including pumped storage projects and a battery facility in Tumakuru, to enhance long-term energy security.
