The decision to skip attending the Pran Prathishta of the Ram Mandir taken by the Indian National Congress (INC) leaders Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge who were extended invitations has resulted in shrap commentary by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Karnataka. The State President of the BJP Karnataka unit B.Y Vijayendra who spoke regarding this decision, “This development was along expected lines. Their decision has not come as a surprise to us. This has however hurt devotees of Ram acoss India. Their true colours have been revealed. We also anticipate them to reverse their decision mandating state-run temples across Karnataka to conduct a pooja for Ram on 22nd January.”
BJP Leader V Sunil lashed out at the INC over this decision. “It is fine if you do not participate. But stop speaking about Ram Mandir this moment onwards. The reason they have provided is laughable. It is a childish pretext. Their anti-Hindu and anti-Ram sentiments have come to the forefront,” he said.
INC leader Jairam Ramesh had earlier offered clarification with regard to this. He declined the invite by the Ayodhya Mandir Trust and stated that RSS and BJP are using the event for their political gain. He however reiterated that the party respects the verdict of the Supreme Court. He also stated that the decision to inaugurate even before the completion of construction was taken keeping the national election in mind.
