In a major crackdown on unsafe pharmaceutical products, the Karnataka Health Department has banned the production, sale, and use of 15 medicines and stimulants, including a widely used paracetamol brand and a cosmetic product. The decision was announced through an official circular by the Food Safety and Drug Administration.

Among the banned items is Pomol-650, a 650mg paracetamol tablet manufactured by Aban Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., raising concerns over the safety of even common fever medications. Another notable product in the list is O Shanti Gold Class Kumkum, a cosmetic manufactured by Mysuru-based N. Ranga Rao & Sons Pvt. Ltd., indicating a wider safety concern beyond pharmaceuticals.
Other banned items include various injectables and tablets such as:
- Compound Sodium Lactate Injection IP by M. Ultra Laboratories and Tom Braun Pharmaceuticals
- Pantocot-DSR capsules by Swefne Pharmaceuticals
- Glimiz-2 tablets by KNM Pharma Pvt. Ltd.
- Iron Sucrose Injection (Irogaine) by Regaine Laboratories
- Piracid-O Suspension by Rednax Pharmaceuticals
Additionally, a poultry vaccine diluent, Styral, has also been prohibited, reflecting a broad regulatory sweep.
The Health Department emphasized that these products were found to be unsafe and posed health risks to consumers. Authorities have instructed all pharmacies and medical institutions in the state to immediately cease stocking or distributing the listed items.
