  • Congress victories in K'taka bypolls a huge plus for Siddaramaiah
  • With formidable victories, he is now an unchallenged leader
  • They come as a booster dose during scam allegations

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has emerged as a formidable leader following Congress's resounding victories in the bypolls for Channapatna, Shiggaon, and Sandur constituencies. The win is particularly significant amid allegations surrounding the MUDA and Valmiki scams, which had put his government under pressure.

The victory in Shiggaon is seen as a masterstroke by Siddaramaiah. The constituency, considered a BJP bastion, was contested by former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s son. Siddaramaiah ensured the ticket went to a Muslim candidate, defying local resistance and rumors of Kuruba community pontiffs supporting the BJP. Siddaramaiah personally campaigned intensively, securing AHINDA (minority, backward classes, and Dalit) votes, which proved decisive.

In Sandur and Channapatna, Siddaramaiah’s energetic campaigning and voter outreach also played a crucial role in convincing the electorate to support Congress candidates.

The bypoll victories are being celebrated by the Congress, particularly as the opposition had intensified demands for Siddaramaiah’s resignation over the scams. The results have not only silenced critics but also cemented Siddaramaiah’s position as the leader capable of navigating challenging political terrains.

These wins bolster Congress’s standing in Karnataka and reaffirm Siddaramaiah’s political clout, setting the tone for his continued leadership amid mounting pressures.
