Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is under fire for approving ₹2.6 crore in renovations at his official residence, Cauvery. The estimated expenditure, detailed in a government notification, has sparked criticism over alleged frivolous spending at a time when the state’s financial stability is under scrutiny.

The Public Works Department’s proposal includes constructing a helper’s room with an attached bathroom, additional storage spaces, new lighting, upgraded air conditioning, and water points. Of the total amount, ₹1.7 crore is earmarked for the helper’s room and kitchen improvements, while ₹89 lakh will go toward electrical and air conditioning upgrades.

Opposition leaders, particularly from the BJP, have condemned the spending. Chickpet MLA Uday Garudachar termed it “outrageous” and questioned the necessity of such expenses when the state is grappling with financial concerns. He urged the Chief Minister to prioritize public needs over personal comfort.

The BJP has linked the expenditure to broader concerns over the state’s finances, alleging that government guarantee schemes are depleting funds, leaving little for development. With mounting criticism, the issue has fueled a political debate over fiscal priorities and governance in Karnataka.
