He even announced a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh

Priyank Kharge, among others was also in attendance

In what comes as a phenomenal gesture, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met and congratulated tennis maestro Rohan Bopanna for clinching the men’s doubles title at the Australian Open.

He also heaped praises on Bopanna for his stellar achievement and announced a substantial prize of Rs 50 lakh in recognition of his remarkable feat.

The felicitation ceremony, graced by the presence of Bopanna’s family, also saw Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge, Minister Shivraj Thangadagi, and other dignitaries in attendance.

It can be said robustly that Bopanna’s triumph marks a significant milestone in Indian tennis history, as he becomes only the third Indian player to secure a men’s doubles Grand Slam title. Partnered by Matthew Ebden, Bopanna delivered a commanding performance in the final, defeating Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. This victory places him in the esteemed company of iconic players like Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, who have brought glory to the nation in men’s tennis. Notably, Sania Mirza remains a trailblazer in women’s tennis.

This isn’t Bopanna’s first taste of Grand Slam success, as he previously claimed the French Open mixed doubles title alongside Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski in 2017. His latest triumph at the Australian Open adds another illustrious chapter to his already impressive career.
