Tensions escalated as several Hindu youths responded by placing the Ganesh idol in front of the local police station, demanding justice. In protest, some groups set fire to shops and torched tyres, further worsening the situation.
The police intervened swiftly and detained 52 individuals for questioning in connection with the incident. The detentions triggered protests by the detainees’ relatives outside the police station, with one man claiming, “Our people did nothing wrong. They were arrested for no reason.”
Law enforcement officials, however, clarified that the detentions were part of ongoing investigations. “We have brought them in for questioning. Those who have done nothing wrong will be released,” a police spokesperson stated.
To prevent further escalation, the authorities have declared a high alert in the region and imposed Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, a measure implemented in urgent situations of potential danger. The situation remains tense, but the police are working to restore peace and prevent additional violence.
No casualties have been reported so far.
