The Gowdathiyara Sene (Gowda Women's Organisation) has filed a complaint to the Karnataka State Commission for Women against Sandalwood star Darshan Thoogudeepa over his supposedly derogatory comment directed to women during his silver jubilee celebration in Srirangapatna. “Was this required on that platform? Why did he say that? We demand an explanation. This will become influential among youngsters through social media who will then use it against women. We should not tolerate this. This is not the first instance he has made such comments. He has been to jail over allegations of domestic violence. This has not changed his outlook towards women. This should not be done publicly by an influential actor. He should learn to respect women. We demand an apology for his statements,” Renuka Bhaktharahalli, the State President of the Gowdathiyara Sene stated.
Renuka stated that the rationale for approaching the women's commission was that a direct contact with celebrities is implausible. She denied allegations that the demonstrations have been prompted by Darshan’s rivals in the industry. The Gowdathiara Sene plans to protest outside Darshan's residence if they do not get a response from him over their complaint.
