The Congress party is preparing to challenge the BJP on a national level by spotlighting an alleged Covid-related scam in Karnataka, which implicates former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and then Health Minister B. Sriramulu. The issue has gained traction following a recommendation by former justice Michael D Cunha, who has suggested that a criminal case be pursued. Reports allege that the scam, which allegedly involved misappropriation of funds during the pandemic response, could run into thousands of rupees.

The Congress aims to use the scandal to politically damage the BJP and its key leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, in Parliament. By bringing attention to the alleged financial irregularities during the BJP’s tenure in Karnataka, Congress intends to weaken the party’s credibility on issues of governance and accountability.
In response, the BJP has intensified its attacks on the current Congress-led government in Karnataka, particularly over the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, signaling an aggressive counteroffensive. The political confrontation over these corruption allegations is expected to be fierce, as both parties seek to discredit each other ahead of significant electoral battles. The Congress hopes that the Covid scam allegations will generate substantial public and political scrutiny of the BJP’s governance record.
