The Indian National Congress (INC) has released its list of candidates for the Vidhan Parishad elections that will take place on June 13th. June 3rd is the last day to file nominations for the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections.
The 7 candidates of the INC are as follows:
- N.S Boseraju
- Vasanth Kumar
- Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah
- K. Govindraj
- Ivan D’Souza
- Bilkis Bano
- Jagdev Guttedar
There was a demand among several leaders for the priced MLC ticket. The Congress high command took several parameters into consideration before finalising the list. Based on their strength in the Vidhana Sabha, they are in a position to win all 7 seats. There is a representation of the Kuruba caste, the Kshatriya caste, the Ediga caste, the Scheduled caste, the Vokkaliga caste, the Muslim community and the Christian community in this list. This indicates that representation of backward classes is a priority for the INC.

Reports suggest that Jagdev Guttedar and Vasanth Kumar’s names were suggested by INC President Mallikarjun Kharge. Yathindra Siddarmaiah, Govindraju and Ivan D’Souza are believed to be Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recommendations. Boasaraju is apparently Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakuar’s choice. Bilkis Bano hails from Shivamogga.
